Dr Gladys Monroy

Dr Monroy is a patent attorney specializing in life sciences and has practiced patent law since 1986. Before her legal career, she was an assistant professor of microbiology at New York Medical College. Dr Monroy has served as president of the Silicon Valley Intellectual Property Law Association and on the board of the Intellectual Property Committee of the State Bar. One of Dr Monroy’s key clients was Chiron Corp, for whom she wrote seminal patents for the company’s Hepatitis C technology. This led to the development of blood-screening technology to detect Hepatitis C. Dr Monroy has made numerous arguments before the USPTO in connection with Chiron’s patents, and she aided Chiron in licensing its technology internationally to 16 countries.
